What happens in a potential analysis?

The scope of the potential analysis and the instruments and procedures used depend on the questions and objectives of the participant. Different backgrounds of experience, initial situations, knowledge levels and goals determine the design of the potential analysis. The instruments are always selected and used individually in order to get answers to the questions asked with the right means. The potential analysis can be aimed both with regard to specific position-related and general questions.

At first, your "initial situation" is determined. In a first interview you answer questions about your personal and professional past as well as your current situation. What have you achieved and achieved so far? What are you dissatisfied with? What are your goals? What is important to you? Based on these results and considerations, you can set the first focal points and priorities. You are much closer to finding your professional goals.

Successful employment relationships are not only based on technical skills. Interpersonal relationships and so-called soft skills are also assigned a major role. Together with your advisor, you will find out your special personality traits based on your experience and specific life situations. You can tell whether you are more of an extrovert or an introvert, what your emotional stability is like, how you confront new experiences, and how easy you are with others. You will also become aware of your motivation and willingness to develop. With specific questions from your coach, you will gain clarity about your social skills as well as your particular personal qualities and strengths. What kind of a person are you? What distinguishes you, what makes you unique?

In addition to these personality and type tests, a self-image and external image analysis can be carried out with you, with which your self-assessment competence is determined. How do you see yourself - and how do others describe you? The better and more realistically you can assess yourself, the more confidently you can communicate your qualities and appear more credible.

With job-related personality and type tests, you and your coach will find out what you are particularly good at. What special skills do you have? Are you more of the analyst or more of the creative? Practitioner or Theorist? Do you really get into full swing as a team, or do you have the best ideas when you are alone? Do you enjoy giving instructions or are you happy when you receive assignments? What activities are specially made for you? What is particularly easy for you to do? Your advisor will help you formulate and assess your core competencies. After these exercises, your verbal competence will increase: you will express better and more clearly who you are and what you offer.

Your coach gives you constant feedback during the potential analysis, so that you are always aware of your own strengths and inclinations. If your advisor interprets the results achieved and compares them with the corresponding evaluation criteria, you will receive e.g. B. Information about the extent to which you are suitable for a specific position or position. Your coach will present the entire results of the potential analysis to you in a final discussion and together you can narrow down suitable professional fields and discuss the next steps. In this way, the potential analysis also contributes to your decision-making.

Potential analysis success factors

So that your effort pays off

You can also carry out the potential analysis yourself using the relevant specialist literature. This includes a good dose of self-discipline, honesty and perseverance. However, if you develop your potential together with an expert, the results will be more objective and you will receive useful advice from a professional, outside person. In any case, it is important to put the potential analysis down in writing because of its scope. On the one hand, you can track your personal development and, on the other hand, you have a wonderful reference work in your hands if you should ever be unsure.

There are some methodological elements that are important when performing a potential analysis. In order for it to be a complete success for you, it should:

  • individually tailored to you, your level of (experience) and your starting position
  • be carried out by qualified specialists
  • Realistically reproduce job requirements
  • use meaningful potential diagnosis instruments,
  • be geared towards feedback
  • logged in all details as precisely as possible and
  • be presented and evaluated in a final discussion.

However, the success of a potential analysis essentially depends on your active participation and motivation:

  • the higher the level of your initiative,
  • the more intensively you think about your professional future,
  • the more impartial and honest you are to yourself,

... the closer you can get to your dream job.

If work is half of life, then it is unwise to give up on your job and stay below your possibilities. Make more of yourself and your life! With the potential analysis you will come a lot closer to your goal of professional self-realization.
