Are there really exceptions

Children up to and including six years of age do not need to be tested. Even people who have a proof of vaccination or recovery do not need to be tested.

People entering from a simple risk area are exempt from the test requirement if they
  • have traveled through the risk area without stopping,
  • only enter the Federal Republic of Germany for transit purposes and leave the Federal Republic of Germany as quickly as possible,
  • Transport people, goods or goods across borders by land, water or air, provided appropriate protection and hygiene concepts are adhered to,
  • return to Germany as part of official delegations via the government terminal of Berlin Brandenburg Airport or Cologne / Bonn Airport and have stayed in a risk area for less than 72 hours,
  • be brought to the Federal Republic of Germany for the purpose of treating an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus because inpatient treatment in the hospital is necessary due to an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and this treatment cannot be ensured on site abroad can,
  • have stayed in a risk area for less than 24 hours within the framework of border traffic or enter the Federal Republic of Germany for up to 24 hours,
  • Are cross-border commuters and the activity is urgently required to maintain operational processes,
  • Are law enforcement officers who are returning from work and from duties in the same country from abroad,
  • are covered by the scope of ยง 54a Infection Protection Act,
  • Are members of foreign armed forces,
  • have been in the Federal Republic of Germany for less than 72 hours or have been in a low-risk or high-incidence area and are entering because of visiting first-degree relatives, a spouse or partner who does not belong to the same household or a shared custody or access right,
  • have been in the Federal Republic of Germany for less than 72 hours or have been in a low-risk or high-incidence area and are high-ranking members of the diplomatic or consular service, representatives of the people or governments.

The requirement of the exception must be made credible at the request of the competent authority, the transport company or the border police.

All exceptions only apply if the respective person entering does not suffer from typical symptoms of an infection with the coronavirus (cough, fever, runny nose, loss of sense of smell and taste).

People entering from a high incidence area are exempt from the test requirement if they
  • have traveled through the high incidence area without stopping,
  • only enter the Federal Republic of Germany for transit purposes and leave the Federal Republic of Germany as quickly as possible,
  • Are employed in the movement of goods and people, adhere to appropriate protection and hygiene concepts and spend less than 72 hours in the Federal Republic of Germany,
  • return to the Federal Republic of Germany as part of official delegations via the government terminal at Berlin Brandenburg Airport or via Cologne / Bonn Airport and have stayed in a high-incidence area for less than 72 hours, or
  • have received an exemption from the competent regulatory authority in justified individual cases and there is a valid reason; the district can issue this exemption by means of a general order.

Cross-border commuters only need to be tested twice a week. The prerequisite for the exception must be made credible to the competent authority, the transport company or the border police on request. All exceptions only apply if the respective person entering does not suffer from typical symptoms of an infection with the coronavirus (cough, fever, runny nose, loss of sense of smell and taste).

People who come from a Virus variant area are under no circumstances exempt from the obligation to test.

Cross-border commuters only need to be tested twice a week. In all other cases, entry is only possible with a negative test result.
