What is the market size for proximity sensors

Sensor market: optimistic despite the crisis

What result do you expect for 2020?

At the height of the crisis, our planning and simulation tools predicted a decline in sales of between ten and 18 percent. Due to the recovery in our markets, this year we will end up with an acceptable drop in sales of around five percent. At no time did we have to plan with layoffs, but we did use the instrument of short-time work.

What is good for us is the boom in the logistics industry. This in turn requires industrial trucks in which our sensors are used at various points.

We also have an advantage from all these digital projects that are being started by the state. Agricultural and construction machinery are also our subject with another part of our sensor technology. And when these programs take effect and roads are built, for example, that is also very good for us.

Fortunately, there is also a lot of movement in another market that is important for our sensor business, hydraulic drives. On the one hand, through government infrastructure projects, both in Europe, but also in Asia and the USA. On the other hand, there are demanding technological requirements, such as autonomous driving and low-emission operation in agricultural technology.

In our second most important mainstay, measurement technology, we work on topics such as connectivity and apps for mobile devices. We have various news planned for the market launch in 2021 and 2022.

We have to accept that our world is difficult or impossible to plan. Maybe even stay that way for a long time. Today this is often described with the term “Vuca-World” (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous). We are working to adapt to this challenge. And I mean, we have come a long way on this exciting journey!
