Which companies use Amazon RDS

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) bundles various online services from Amazon. The online retailer Amazon started AWS in 2006 and relies on decentralized, globally distributed data centers with huge storage capacity and computing power, which Amazon itself needs to operate its e-commerce platform. What was once intended to better utilize its own infrastructure has now proven to be highly profitable for Amazon, although all Amazon AWS services are billed according to usage.

Available services from Amazon Web Services

Cloud Computing / Virtual Server

With EC2 (Elastic Cloud Computing) Amazon offers freely configurable, scalable virtual servers. The stacks can be pulled up within a few minutes using a JSON script, for example. Since billing is usage-dependent, AWS EC2 is ideally suited for rapidly expanding companies and business models where enormous computing power is required at certain points. Required resources such as main memory (RAM) or CPUs can be flexibly adapted or auto-scaled. Incoming application traffic can be automatically distributed to multiple EC2 instances via Elastic Load Balancing.

With Amazon EC2 you can also use standardized software such as the most common content management systems (CMS) WordPress, Drupal, Joomla or Typo3 and rely on a scalable infrastructure from the start.

Regardless of whether it is a company website, your own online application or mobile app: With Amazon Web Services you can set up almost any business idea on the web in a cost-effective, scalable and future-proof manner. Contact us!

Data: storage & distribution

Simple Storage Service (S3) is a file hosting service from AWS. In principle, any large amount of data can be saved with S3. AWS Simple Storage Service is billed based on usage. With CloudFront, Amazon also offers a decentralized content delivery network (CDN) that can deliver content worldwide via distributed networks locally with high transmission rates and low latency (and without minimum usage).

Databases and data evaluation

A number of virtual databases based on MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Oracle are available as databases with RDS (Relational Database Service).

With Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR) companies, researchers, data analysts and developers have a hosted Hadoop framework that runs on EC2 & S3. With EMR, enormous amounts of data (big data) can be processed and analyzed easily but also inexpensively.

Other services from AWS

In recent years Amazon has developed numerous services and web services that are relevant for companies with IT processes of a certain size. Amazon Web Services also include development environments such as SDKs for various platforms such as Java, Ruby, PHP, node.js or .NET

With AWS Identity and Access Management, Amazon offers a directory service for managing users and resources in an organization, comparable to the Active Directory of Microsoft Windows Server.
