Halloween falls on Reformation Day and was a public holiday in Germany only in 2017 as an exception in all federal states. Reformation Day has been a regional holiday again since 2018: In the new federal states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, October 31 is a public holiday and therefore non-working. There is no school on Reformation Day in Baden-W├╝rttemberg. In Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, Reformation Day has also been on an equal footing with Sundays since 2018.

October 31, 2021 is not a public holiday in Austria and Switzerland.
