The US company Microsoft has rolled out the cumulative updates for May Patchday 2021 for Windows 10 and Microsoft Office. This closes 55 vulnerabilities in the operating system. The most critical vulnerability concerns the HTTP stack. Hackers can send a special packet to affected servers and thus execute arbitrary code.

With the May Patchday, leaks in Microsoft Windows, .NET Core and Visual Studio, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, SharePoint Server, open source software, Hyper-V as well as Skype, Microsoft Lync and Exchange Server will be plugged. You should definitely install the updates.

Note: For Windows build 1909 this is the last patch day. The system will no longer receive any security updates in the future.

Windows 10 users usually receive the updates automatically. If available, they will be downloaded and installed the next time the system starts - provided you have not deactivated or paused the automated update in Windows 10.

Windows Patchday: Which versions of 8.1 and 10 will receive updates?

Windows 10 Home and Pro receive 18 months of support for this version from the release of a new main version. Users of the Enterprise and Education versions, however, 30 months. Windows 8.1 has extended support until January 10, 2023. This means that these systems will still receive all important security updates. However, it is recommended that you switch to Windows 10 in good time.

For Windows 7, the patch day in January 2020 ended. Microsoft no longer provides the operating system with updates for private users.
