What is an old industrial building

Before: renovation of the abandoned factory

Ferdinand Count Luckner

Broken windows, a missing roof, ramshackle walls - it takes some imagination to buy an abandoned factory. Where today there is a combined living and working house, cooling units for refrigerators used to be manufactured in the Cologne suburb of Sürth.

The industrial ensemble stood empty for a long time and the halls fell into disrepair. Among other things, the three-gabled roof was no longer there, which meant that it was raining into the premises. Due to this dilapidated condition, the property should also be foreclosed. But the builders got there beforehand, they secured this industrial certificate in good time.

As it turned out later, fortunately, no contaminated sites had arisen in the days of commercial use. The walls and floor were found to be free of harmful substances.
